More Than a Trend: Saving the Planet with Sustainable Bamboo

Toothbrushes, face masks & lunch kits...bamboo is everywhere!

It’s trendy. There’s no way around it. Bamboo toothbrushes are all the rage, and the face scrubs? Don’t even get us started on the those! (Have you felt your skin after a bamboo face scrub?) Ahhh-mazing!)

Just about everywhere we turn, it seems there’s something new that’s made from bamboo. It may seem innovative to us, but bamboo has actually been around for thousands of years. It’s a resource that’s being newly introduced to our modern society, and we’re RE-discovering its FABULOUSITY!

What can bamboo do?

Think of bamboo as a sustainable powerhouse resource that can help rescue the planet and restore ecological balance. (Plus, it’s really pretty and fun to grow.)

If you think that’s cool, this is even better:

  1. Bamboo is renewable. It can be harvested within 1 to 5 years! It takes at least 40 years before an oak tree can be harvested. Bamboo alleviates strain on the forestry industry and allows trees to grow and thrive.

  2. Bamboo absorbs greenhouse gases by serving as a ‘carbon sink.’ It soaks up carbon dioxide and keeps it from being released back into the atmosphere.

  3. Bamboo releases oxygen into the air. A bamboo grove releases 35% more oxygen into the air than an equal number of trees.

  4. Bamboo doesn’t require chemicals in order to thrive. Most crops need fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides to survive, but bamboo is hardy and grows in many different climates.

  5. Bamboo produces very little waste. Nearly all of the bamboo plant is used when it is harvested. Because of its versatility, it’s used for everything from fabrics to construction materials; and plant residue can be used for things like mulch or fertilizer.
